Frequently Asked Toastmasters Questions:
Q: What is Toastmasters?
A: Toastmasters is a worldwide organization whose mission is to empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders. Members learn by doing. We practice in a safe, friendly, and fun environment, so that we can take our skills home, to the workplace, and everywhere. Members must be at least 18 years of age.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: There is a one-time $20.00 (+ applicable sales tax) new member fee if you have never been in Toastmasters before. Former Toastmasters do not pay this fee.
In addition, the six-month International dues rate is $60 for the October-March and April-September periods. Members joining later in the period would pay a pro-rated amount from the member's start month; for example, $50 to join in May. Members joining during the last two months of the renewal period would pay for those months plus the next 6-month period. International membership dues are paid twice a year by all members.

Q: How do I join Top of Texas Toastmasters?
A: Visit a meeting! When you decide we are the club for you, we will be happy to send you an Application for Membership. Once we receive your application and payment, you will be entered as a member of Top of Texas and can immediately start your Toastmasters learning experience.
Q: When and where does the club meet?
A: Top of Texas meets at 9:00 am every Saturday morning, except on designated holidays. The Zoom link is on the home page.
Q: What happens at a meeting?
A: The basics are:
- Prepared speeches
- Impromptu speeches (Table Topics)
- Individual evaluations of the prepared speeches and a general evaluation of the meeting
The evaluation portion of the meeting is the heart of the Toastmasters program. It is how we learn and improve. It is always nurturing and encouraging. We strive to have everyone leave uplifted!
Q: How much time does a member have to commit to Toastmasters?
A: Toastmasters is a self-paced program, so members can move at their own speed, but your progress will depend on the time and effort you put into it. Our meetings are typically one hour per week. If you have a meeting role, you will need to prepare, and the time will vary with the role.
Q: How do I know what to do after I have joined?
A: After joining, you will have access to the official Toastmasters orientation and educational materials. You may have a more experienced member as your mentor. Of course, your mentor (and all the members) are available to answer any questions you may have. Everyone wants you to succeed!
